Sam White, Psy.D. (she/her) is a licensed clinical psychologist serving clients in California and Montana; services offered include individual and couples therapy, diagnostic assessment and clarification, and professional consultation for therapists
Therapy is an investment in yourself and your wellbeing; it can be supportive, challenging, eye-opening, stimulating, and life-changing.
Therapy is unique for each individual; I begin the process by working to deeply see you, going beyond the surface and working to fully understand your history, concerns, and goals in order to offer you a therapy experience tailored to your needs. I am active, engaged and collaborative as a therapist, and I value being able to give and receive direct feedback in order to assist you.
My background and training have led me to work in ways that prioritize both an understanding and ability to intervene with present concerns, behaviors and patterns, as well as to deeply understand the older roots of current challenges. One of the gifts of therapy is being able to acknowledge and compassionately observe some of our oldest patterns and gain insight and support to shift them when they no longer serve us.
I would love to speak with you to hear about your concerns and to mutually determine how working together could assist you in reaching your goals. I offer a free initial 15-minute phone consultation.
You can contact me at 406-551-6385 (text and voicemail are welcome).
I received my undergraduate degree in psychology from Wesleyan University and my doctorate in clinical psychology in 2010 from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I completed post-doctoral training at Cornell University. I have been licensed as a psychologist since 2012. Prior to being in private practice, I worked at an LGBTQ+ health center and at multiple university counseling centers.
I was trained as a generalist and have experience working with a wide variety of concerns. However, my particular areas of expertise are:
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
If you are seeking treatment for OCD, I am happy to explain treatment options in-depth during a free consultation. I offer Inference-based CBT for OCD (ICBT) as well as Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
Anxiety
I am well-versed in treating the multitude of ways that anxiety can present including generalized anxiety, panic, health anxiety, perinatal anxiety & phobias
Relationship Concerns
I can assist you in addressing patterns of relating, personality dynamics, trauma and past experiences that affect relationships in the present
Women's Health
Anxiety, depression and other symptoms that arise during pregnancy, postpartum, or the perimenopausal period are real, treatable, and deserve support
I can support you in navigating fertility challenges and fertility decision-making
Life Changes
Therapy can assist with coping with and adapting to pregnancy and related concerns, new parenthood, illness, job/career changes, divorce, ailing parents, caregiving concerns, and other life transitions
Neurodivergence
Many adults who are neurodivergent are impacted by the experience of growing up without an accurate understanding of their unique strengths and challenges. I support neurodivergent adults in decreasing internalized shame and owning strengths. I also enjoy supporting those who are parenting neurodivergent children
Diagnosis: if you are an adult seeking assessment to clarify diagnosis, contact me to discuss options for psychological assessment
Couples Therapy
I work with a limited number of couples at a time; I work from an EFT perspective to assist couples in identifying the deeper patterns driving recurring conflicts. I also specialize in couples work in which one or both partners are diagnosed with OCD or an anxiety disorder
I provide therapy services to adults (18+) and offer telehealth services to clients in Montana (license PSY 949) and California (license PSY 36177). You can participate in your therapy session from anywhere in the state of Montana or California as long as you have privacy and a stable internet connection.
I provide assessment for adults to clarify diagnosis related to OCD, anxiety, ADHD, autism and other commonly co-occuring conditions. From this assessment, I can offer resources and make treatment recommendations to you or for use with your current therapist, physician, or psychiatric provider.
I also offer consultation to other therapists seeking to grow professionally. I have extensive experience supporting therapists' development, providing supervision, training and consultation. Contact me for additional information.
I am considered an out-of-network provider for all insurances. I offer a limited sliding scale that you are welcome to inquire about if therapy would otherwise be inaccessible.
As an out-of-network provider, I am happy to provide you with a detailed receipt ("Superbill") that you can submit to your insurance company to request reimbursement. Some insurance plans will reimburse anywhere between 20-80% of the session fee; you can contact your insurance provider for more information on your specific benefits.
Additionally, you have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give clients who don’t have insurance, or who are not using insurance, an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, to give you a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit http://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
